Melanotan II
Also known as: MT-2
Cyclic lactam heptapeptide α-MSH analog with broad melanocortin receptor activity (MC1R/MC3R/MC4R/MC5R).
Melanotan II (MT-2) is a cyclic lactam heptapeptide analog of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH).
It was developed at the University of Arizona as a research tool to study non-selective melanocortin-receptor pharmacology, with activity spanning MC1R, MC3R, MC4R, and MC5R.Unlike the more selective PT-141 (bremelanotide), which was derived from MT-II by removing the α-MSH segment responsible for MC1R activity, Melanotan II retains broad melanocortin-receptor activity including skin pigmentation (MC1R), feeding behavior and weight regulation (MC4R), and sexual-behavior signaling (MC3R/MC4R).Melanotan II has an extensive research literature spanning structural biology (its lactam-bridge design was influential in cyclic peptide drug development), metabolic signaling, pigmentation pathways, and behavioral neuroscience.

Melanotan II is a cyclic heptapeptide analogue of α-MSH with broad melanocortin receptor activity. Research applications include skin pigmentation, appetite regulation, and sexual function studies due to its action on MC1R, MC3R, and MC4R receptors.
